Franking machines
Metered franking is an easy, flexible way to pay for postage as and when needed, giving you the freedom to manage your business mail more efficiently. Metered franking can be used to pay for all local, UK, Special Delivery, Recorded Delivery and overseas letter mail.
Guernsey Post does not supply franking machines; however in order to use a franking machine it must first be registered with Guernsey Post and allocated a licence number. This will usually be done for you by the supplier. Franking machines are currently available locally from the following companies that will also advise on top-up procedures:
Office Solutions Guernsey Limited
Website: www.osguernsey.com
Telephone: 01481 716300 (Neopost, Ascom Hasler)
Sigma - Aztec Office Products

Telephone: 01481 241114 (Pitney Bowes)
Customers who use metered franking must abide by the following instructions to ensure that the mail is correctly franked. It is particularly important that the correct date of posting appears on all mail. Incorrectly dated mail could be delayed.
-
Check the franking impression at the start of every day. Take a test print with the value set at zero to check the date and clarity.
-
Pre-sort mail into categories, i.e., Bailiwick, UK, Jersey and International.
-
Set the pricing on the machine according to the weight/service of each item, paying particular attention to International pricing. Any underpaid mail will have a £0.50 surcharge applied to it, plus twice the underpaid amount, which will be payable by the recipient.
-
Bundle the mail for despatch (20-50 items) by category. Arrange the items so that they all face one way, with the franking impression in the top right-hand corner.
-
Place the mail in the coloured pouches that can be obtained from Guernsey Post at its Smith Street and Envoy House branches.
- Bailiwick mail in Blue pouches.
- UK and Jersey mail in Red pouches.
- International mail in White pouches.
-
Take the pouches to the nominated premises in the Guernsey Post retail network before the final collection time for that branch. Only mail received by these times will be processed that day to connect with the evening mail despatch to the UK, contact Customer Services for further information.
-
Priority items such as Special Delivery, etc., must always be handed over directly to staff and must never be enclosed within the mail pouches.
Please note:
You may reclaim overpaid or unused franking impressions by returning the envelopes, wrappers or stickers concerned to the Finance Department, Guernsey Post, Envoy House, La Vrangue, St. Peter Port, GUERNSEY, GY1 1AA. Applications should be made within six months from the date of franking; an administration charge of 5% will be deducted from any refund given.
