Special Delivery for gifts to the UK & CI

Special delivery is available from all Guernsey Post branches and is the recommended service for sending items of value to the UK because it provides a range of insurance options.

Level of service for gifts

• Guaranteed next working day delivery by 1pm (Monday to Friday) for documents and goods (subject to pre-payment of import VAT) to Jersey, the Isle of Man and most UK destinations.
• Secure handling.
• Proof of posting.
• Signature on delivery.
• Confirmation of delivery using Track and Trace online* or by contacting Customer Services on 711720 after 3pm on the day of delivery.
• Proof of delivery (free of charge).
• Reassurance of compensation in event of loss or damage of items, subject to proof of cost, proof of posting and the level of insurance purchased. This does not include consequential loss.
• Available from all Guernsey Post branches (click here here for latest posting times for next day guaranteed service).

Guaranteed next working day delivery

With Special Delivery we guarantee delivery* for documents and goods to most UK addresses by 1pm the next working day, click here for more information. This includes Northern Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey.

Some places take longer to deliver to, but we still guarantee delivery within three working days by 5:30pm. Click here for more information.

Special Delivery cannot be used when sending an item to an Admail address.

Document packages should always be clearly marked “DOCUMENTS”.

A next day guaranteed service is available for customers sending goods with a value below £36 and for goods with a value over £36 where the import VAT is pre-paid.

Goods where import VAT has not been pre-paid at the time of posting are subject to HM Customs inspection and will not be guaranteed for next working day delivery. Goods with a value of less than £36 are exempt from pre-payment of import VAT and are eligible for next working day delivery. See our chart to determine whether you need to pre-pay import VAT.

What if my gift is valued over £2,000?

We can accept items for our Special Delivery next working day guaranteed service up to a maximum value of £2,000. If your item is over this amount we can still accept it, up to a maximum of £2,500, but you are not able to pre-pay import VAT and therefore the item, whilst still enjoying a trackable and secure service, cannot be guaranteed for next working day delivery.

Special Delivery items cannot be posted in pillar boxes.

In the event that items are not delivered according to the guaranteed delivery times, Guernsey Post will refund the cost of the service on completion of a claim form submitted with the receipt as proof of posting. Claims for Special Delivery must be received within 12 months of the posting date. Click here for details.

Insurance

The terms and conditions of the insurance insures the cost of money, jewellery and other items lost or damaged up to a maximum of either £500, £1,000 or £2,500 dependent on the insurance level purchased (£2,000 when import VAT pre-paid). Money and jewellery must be sent in Special Delivery pre-paid envelopes.

Guernsey Post is not liable for consequential loss claims or the market value of any message or information such as travel or entertainment tickets. The liability in respect of such items is limited to the value of the printed material and administration fee for replacement and not the item or its replacement.

In case of a claim a customer enquiry form must be completed and returned, with the receipt as proof of posting and proof of the cost price of the replacement item, no later than 12 months from the date of posting. Click here for details.

Exclusions

Special Delivery is available to the UK and Channel Islands only. It is not available for items posted to the Republic of Ireland. In such cases, Guernsey Post can advise on the alternative services.

Alcohol, tobacco, perfume and aftershave products are subject to HM Customs inspection and therefore are excluded from the next day guaranteed service. This also applies to items being sent for repair.
