TV licences
If you use or install a television or other TV receiving equipment to receive or record television services (e.g. a VCR, set-top box, DVD recorder or PC with a broadcast card) you need a valid TV licence. A separate licence is required for each separately occupied place i.e. one TV licence covers any number of TV receivers at the single address specified on the licence.
TV licence information and forms are available from all Guernsey Post branches. The following licences are available:
| Twelve month colour licence |
£139.50 |
| Twelve month black and white licence |
£47.00 |
There are however certain circumstances where these charges do not apply:
The Over 75 TV licence
Anyone aged 75 or over is entitled to a free TV licence for their principal residence, i.e. the place where they live most of the time. They will need to apply for a free licence and it will not be issued automatically (residents of Sark are excluded).
The Short Term TV licence for 74 year olds
For people who currently are 74 and need to renew the TV licence, a Short Term licence can be obtained to last until they turn 75. The cost of this licence depends on how many months it will be required (residents of Sark are excluded).
The Blind Concession
People who are registered blind will only pay 50% of the full licence fee (proof required at time of purchase).
Ways to pay at Guernsey Post branches
The cost of the licence can be spread over the 12 months with £2 savings stamps that can be purchased at all Guernsey Post branches. Customers can buy stamps throughout the year and affix them to a savings card to pay for all or part of the licence when due for renewal.
You can also pay by cash or cheque at all Guernsey Post branches. Most branches accept credit or debit cards payments. When paying by credit card a 1.75% surcharge applies.
