Guernsey Post has finalised the details of its contingency plans, developed in response to this years airport closures.
Dave Bynam, Head of Network and Planning at Guernsey Post said:
"We have worked hard to provide a solution for our customers that will mean next day delivery in the UK is still achievable. Aurigny Air Services have helped us to charter a helicopter; this will enable us to send greetings cards and urgent documents for next day delivery. All other items will be shipped into and out of the island by boat."
Customers looking to send Special Delivery documents and greeting cards for next day delivery should post these by 12.00pm so that they can be processed in time to connect with the Helicopter.
Additionally, on the days of the airport closures, island wide collections will be brought forward to 1.00pm and the last Envoy House and Smith St. collections will take place at 3pm to ensure mail connects with the UK mail boat.
Customers in Alderney, wishing to use the greetings card and special delivery document service for next day delivery, are asked to post these items by no later than 10.00am.
Please noteThe sending of greetings cards and documents Special Delivery is strictly subject to availability due to limited aircraft capacity. All other Jersey, UK and International items will be transferred to and from the island by boat, incurring a 24hr delay to deliveries.
