A new agreement between Guernsey Post, HMRC and the Guernsey Border Agency (GBA) now allows Bailiwick residents wanting to send gifts over to the UK to benefit from faster delivery times. David Bynam, Head of Network at Guernsey Post said that this is the first time HMRC has allowed the Company, together with the GBA, to pre-customs clear all gifts so that they may be sent directly to the recipient.
"Previously, all gifts under the value of £40 had to be sent to HMRC for clearance and this would delay the delivery of the gift regardless of the delivery service the customer chose. Now, for the first time, gifts sent via standard post should arrive faster and gifts sent via Special Delivery are guaranteed for next day delivery - an ideal service if you need to send that last minute present!"
The new agreement also applies for gifts valued over £40** where the VAT has been pre-paid. Previously, only prepaid VAT gifts over the value of £40 sent via Special Delivery could be delivered directly to the recipient.
Guernsey Post would like to stress that gifts for this service will only be accepted if a return address is provided on the back of the item.
