Guernsey Stamps

We had long loved the island, and settling here has opened an exciting new chapter in my work. Sark is completely different from East Africa, yet equally inspiring. Its quiet lanes, dramatic cliffs and ever-changing light challenges me to capture the emotions, tones and colours of this amazing small island.

lderney’s Milk-a-Punch celebration, observed on the first Sunday in May, reflects a long-standing tradition of marking the seasonal turning point between winter and summer. Though now associated with gatherings in the island’s pubs, the custom recalls earlier rural life and the movement of cattle to summer pasture. The shared drink has become a symbol of hospitality and continuity, linking present-day islanders with earlier generations.

2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamp programme, a long standing tradition that Guernsey Post has taken part in for 50 years. Issued annually, Guernsey’s EUROPA stamps interpret shared themes through subjects connected to the Bailiwick’s heritage, people and environment, creating a distinctive collecting series within the wider European programme.

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the return of the first islanders to Alderney following World War II and the German Occupation. In 1945, after years of displacement, families began to return to their homeland, finding a landscape forever changed by the conflict.

This year’s Christmas stamps feature one of the most familiar festive stories: The Twelve Days of Christmas. The carol, with its playful rhythm and cumulative verses, has long been a seasonal favourite. Its imagery - from partridges and turtle doves to pipers and drummers – creates a vivid picture of celebration, generosity, and joy.

Wombling Free on Alderney. Visitors to Alderney can explore the delightful Womble Trail, where statues of much loved Womble characters bring nostalgia to life. These charming figures are scattered across the island, each with their own personality and story to tell.

2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Joseph Mallord William Turner, one of the most influential figures in the art world. Born circa 23rd April 1775, Turner’s groundbreaking techniques reshaped the world of landscape painting.

Born in Dalston, Cumbria, John Wilson (1781-1866) became one of the most celebrated architects in Guernsey. Initially working as a Clerk of Works for the Board of Ordnance, he was sent to Guernsey around 1813 to oversee the construction of barracks for the British garrison in Guernsey and Alderney.
