Undeliverable Mail Policy
There may be occasions when we cannot deliver an item of mail and this policy sets out what those reasons may be and how we will handle the mail in each case.
In the event that we cannot successfully deliver an item of mail as a result of the address not being accessible at the time we attempt delivery and/or in our opinion delivery to the specified address would compromise the health and safety of our staff, we will attempt to make contact with you using any other contact details we may have for you. Where this is not successful, we will treat the item as undeliverable and may return the item to sender, if a return address exists, or we may dispose of the item of mail at our discretion and in a manner we see fit.
Where we cannot successfully deliver an item of mail as we have reason to believe it contains a Prohibited Item or Dangerous Goods or does not meet our requirements for delivery of a Restricted Item, we will treat the item as undeliverable. We will attempt to get in touch with you using any other contact details we may have for you to notify you of the item. Where this is not successful, we may at our discretion dispose of the item as we see fit.
Where we are satisfied that the addressee of a postal item is deceased, we in our discretion may:
- Deliver or redirect the postal item in accordance with any request in writing made by any executor, administrator or other person appearing to GPL to be conducting the affairs of the deceased addressee. or
- Treat the postal item in accordance with the provisions of Undeliverable Post Policy (see information shown above)
Where we cannot successfully deliver an item of mail because of the address being illegible or incomplete we will attempt an alternative delivery where possible. Where this is unsuccessful, we will follow the guidelines below:
From local to local
Items are returned when the sender can be identified. If this is not possible, the item is retained for three months.
