Important new requirements when sending items internationally in 2021
Please note all postal goods shipments to the USA are temporarily suspended. Please click here for more information.
The Republic of Ireland now require all items (correspondence/documents/goods) sent via a priority service (Tracked and Tracked & Signed), now require electronic customs data to be completed. We highly recommend that the sender includes their telephone number in the electronic customs declaration.
When posting your item there is now a requirement to submit your customs form (CN22/CN23), in advance electronically.
From 1st January 2021, as a result of new international legislation, it will become a requirement for every individual worldwide to provide an electronic copy of customs information when sending items internationally* containing goods (excludes items of correspondence).
Failure to comply is likely to result in significant delays, destruction or having items returned.
How do I provide my Customs information electronically when sending an international package?
Post Office customers
If you are sending an international package you can complete an online Customs Form, which will automatically submit your information electronically, and generate a customer reference number through our website. Then simply bring your item for posting into one of our branches, along with your customer reference number and one of our Post Office team will print out your customs label for you and affix it to your parcel. This process will ensure your item is not unnecessarily delayed along the way.
All customers when sending goods internationally will now have to put a HS tariff number on the customs form if they are sending anything other than gifts or documents. A HS tariff number is a Harmonised System (HS) code, this number is used internationally to classify goods for customs purposes. From 1 September 2025. new international customs rules require thar all items containing goods must include a HS code for each type of item. Please enter the code without spaces or punctuation, e.g. 4901990010 not 4901.99.00.10.
You can look up HS codes using this free and easy tool : FedEx International Shipping Assist (Lite)
