Government House was purchased by the Crown in 1925 as the residence of the Lieutenant Governor during the reign of stamp‑enthusiast King George V who had one of the finest collections in the world. It was occupied by German forces in WWII, who used the grounds for exercising horses. This post box was installed in February 1934, and sits outside the gates to Government House. It served the community until November 2025.
