Letterbox Placement
Some issues to consider regarding the placement of a letterbox
Who will be using the letterbox?
- A mid-level door letterbox offers some mail security, making it difficult for thieves to reach in and steal letters and small parcels that end up sitting close to the door.
- Letterbox openings positioned at the bottom of doors can cause serious physical problems for our postal workers, due to the neck and back strain caused by repeatedly bending down to deliver mail. When the mail is pushed through an aperture at ground level, fingers are more likely to get trapped and the potential for injury by dog bite is much greater.
- Mid-level letterboxes provide easier, safer access for the postal worker.
There are alternative solutions to a door letter box to consider...
Particularly with the increase of parcel delivery over standard mail. If the position of a standard mid-level letterbox is not viable, or the mail delivery may be a cause of distress to pets, there are other options to consider:
- External wall-mounted post box or locker-style parcel boxes. These are now also now available as high security devices using a pin or QR code to access the mail/parcels.
- An American style letterbox mounted on a on a post set away from the property ensures easy access, less household invasion and happier pets.
