Guernsey Post has announced that its three month trial of Special Delivery by Air to the UK will conclude following the final scheduled flight on 2 October, after a review showed most customers chose alternative sea-based services.
Following the withdrawal of the dedicated mail plane in July, Guernsey Post introduced a three month trial of an air-based Special Delivery service providing guaranteed next-day delivery, alongside its newly introduced sea-based Special Delivery and Tracked products.
The results of the trial showed that only 5% of customers chose Special Delivery by Air, with the remaining 95% choosing either Special Delivery by Sea, a guaranteed two-day service, or Tracked which typically delivers within two to three-days.
Steve Sheridan, Chief Executive of Guernsey Post, said: "Following the withdrawal of the dedicated mail plane, we introduced this trial to assess demand for an air-based Special Delivery service alongside our new sea-based products. The trial showed limited demand for a premium air-based option, with only 5% of customers choosing the service. Given the limited uptake during the trial, customer demand has not been sufficient to justify continuing the air-based service beyond the trial period."
Next-day delivery services remain available through DHL Express, and customers requiring this option should contact DHL Express Team directly on 01481 236596 who will be happy to help.
