Guernsey’s post boxes reflect the island’s evolving postal history, beginning with the introduction of pillar boxes in 1853 after trials inspired by Anthony Trollope’s observations in Europe. This box, installed in June 1964, served the community until its closure in November 2025. Nearby lived Douglas Gumbley, born in 1880 at 4 Upland Road, later credited with inventing the airmail aerogramme.
